Founded in 1630, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States and is truly a cradle of American history. The capital of Massachusetts and the main metropolis of New England, this iconic city charms with its richly preserved historical heritage. It also stands out as an exceptional academic hub, housing world-renowned universities such as Harvard and MIT in the neighboring city of Cambridge. Beyond its intellectual prestige, the destination is distinguished by its dynamic cultural scene and culinary traditions, notably the famous clam chowder and cream pie.

Geographical situation

Strategically located on the east coast of the United States, the city occupies a privileged position north of the Northeast megalopolis, commonly referred to as BosWash, which stretches down to Washington D.C. The Charles River elegantly crosses the metropolitan area, while the Atlantic Ocean borders the city, providing direct access to Massachusetts Bay. This coastal situation gives the whole area a undeniable maritime charm.

The autumn period, extending from September to November, is generally considered the ideal time to explore the destination. Access

Logan International Airport, located a few kilometers from downtown, is the main air gateway. Travelers can also reach the destination by rail via South Station, served by the Amtrak network which connects major American cities. A bus network complements the long-distance transport offering from many cities in the region.

Internal transport

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) manages an efficient public transport network including the subway known as the "T". This system consists of several lines identified by distinctive colors, complemented by an urban bus network and ferry connections linking different sectors of the metropolitan area. The compact downtown area is perfect for walking exploration, allowing for full appreciation of the architecture and atmosphere of the various neighborhoods.
