Overall presentation

Mexico is a dynamic and cosmopolitan metropolis, rich in history and culture. Founded on the ruins of the ancient Tenochtitlán, the Mexican capital offers a unique blend of colonial and modern architecture. The city is renowned for its world-class museums, diverse gastronomic scene, and lively neighborhoods that reflect its millennia-old heritage and modernity.

Geographical location

The city is located in the Valley of Mexico, at a remarkable altitude of about 2,240 meters. It is surrounded by majestic mountains and volcanoes, including the famous Popocatépetl. This central location in the country facilitates access to other regions of Mexico, making the capital an ideal starting point for exploring the national territory.

Atmosphere and character

Mexico is a vibrant city that never sleeps, perfectly combining urban bustle with green spaces like Chapultepec Park. Each neighborhood has its own personality: Roma and Condesa are known for their bohemian vibe and Art Deco architecture, while the historic center offers a true journey back in time with its well-preserved colonial buildings.

Climate

The capital enjoys a subtropical highland climate, characterized by moderate temperatures throughout the year due to its high altitude. The climate is divided into two distinct seasons: a dry period from November to April and a rainy season from May to October.

Best season to visit

The ideal time to explore Mexico stretches from November to April. During these months, the climate is drier and temperatures are particularly pleasant. This period also offers the advantage of less precipitation, greatly facilitating outdoor activities and visits to the many tourist sites.

Access

The city is served by two main airports:

  • Mexico International Airport (MEX): the largest and busiest, located about 5 km from the city center
  • Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU): inaugurated in 2022, located about 48.8 km northeast of the historic center

Internal transport

The capital has a particularly developed public transport network:

  • Metro: 12 lines covering 195 stations, offering a fast and economical way to get around the entire metropolis
  • Metrobús: high-service level bus system with 7 main lines
  • Taxis and ride-sharing services: regulated taxis and apps like Uber and DiDi widely available
  • Bicycles: the ECOBICI rental service allows you to explore the city on two wheels in an eco-friendly way
