Overall presentation

The capital of Qatar, Doha is a dynamic metropolis where tradition and modernity harmoniously blend. With a population of approximately 1.5 million inhabitants, it accounts for nearly 80% of the national population. Its futuristic skyline, dotted with bold skyscrapers, contrasts with traditional neighborhoods such as the famous Souq Waqif. This cosmopolitan city also stands out as a major economic center, hosting the headquarters of numerous international and Qatari companies, particularly in the oil, gas, and finance sectors.

Geographical situation

Located on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, the city stretches along a crescent-shaped bay, offering breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf. It is surrounded by typical desert landscapes of the region, creating a striking contrast between modern urbanization and the natural environment.

Ambiance and character

The atmosphere of this metropolis is characterized by its cultural diversity and cosmopolitanism. Its avant-garde architecture reflects its ambition and openness to the world, with iconic buildings such as the Qatar National Museum designed by Jean Nouvel. The city offers a vibrant nightlife, especially in the modern West Bay area, as well as popular relaxation spaces like the Corniche, a beautiful seaside promenade favored by both locals and visitors.

Climate

The hot desert climate is characterized by extremely hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from 17 °C in January to 36 °C in July, with peaks that can exceed 40 °C during the summer months. Rainfall remains rare and primarily occurs in winter.

Best season to visit

The ideal period extends from November to February, when temperatures are milder, ranging between 15 and 20 °C. This season is particularly suitable for outdoor activities, such as visiting souks, museums, or exploring the surrounding desert.

  • Public buses
  • A metro inaugurated in 2019 with three lines (red, green, and gold) serving the main districts
