General presentation

Global presentation

This Mediterranean island enjoys a worldwide reputation thanks to its iconic clubs such as Pacha, Amnesia, and Ushuaïa, which attract party-goers from all corners of the globe. Beyond its legendary party scene, the island reveals remarkable heritage with its old town Dalt Vila, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as beaches with crystal clear waters and preserved secluded coves. This destination offers a perfect balance between intense entertainment and natural escape.

Geographical situation

The island stands in the Mediterranean Sea, about 150 kilometers east of the Iberian Peninsula, facing the city of Dénia. It is part of the Balearic archipelago, forming with Mallorca, Menorca, and Formentera a favored island group of the western Mediterranean.

Atmosphere and character

The unique atmosphere of the island results from the harmonious combination of lively festive areas and spaces of absolute tranquility. The colorful hippie markets, the picturesque villages with narrow streets, and the preserved natural landscapes give this territory an authentic charm that transcends its reputation as a party destination. This duality allows each visitor to experience the adventure that suits them.

Climate

The Mediterranean climate ensures ideal conditions with hot, dry summers contrasting with particularly mild winters. Average summer temperatures peak between July (26.5°C) and August (27°C), while in winter, the thermometer rarely drops below 10°C, thus offering a pleasant mildness throughout the year.

Best season to visit

The months of May, June, and September are the optimal period to discover the island, combining particularly pleasant weather with more moderate crowds. July and August correspond to the most lively months, characterized by intense nightlife and high temperatures, ideal for party enthusiasts but less suitable for those seeking tranquility.

Access

The international airport (IBZ), located about 7 kilometers southwest of the main city, serves as the main gateway with numerous connections provided by European airlines, especially from France. Maritime links offer an attractive alternative with regular ferries from Barcelona, Dénia, and Valencia, also allowing vehicle transport.

Internal transport

An efficient bus network serves the entire island territory, linking main cities and beaches with regular lines. Taxis remain easily available for occasional trips. Car or scooter rentals are the preferred option for visitors wishing to explore the island at their own pace and access the most secluded coves.
