Ljubljana, the capital and largest city of Slovenia, captivates with its rich historical and cultural heritage as well as its picturesque natural landscapes. Strategically located in the center of Slovenia, the city stands at the confluence of the Ljubljanica and Sava rivers, between the Karst region and the Alps. This privileged location in the heart of Europe places it in close proximity to several major metropolises:

• Vienna 320 km to the southwest
• Budapest 400 km to the southwest

Best season to visit

The optimal period extends from April to October, when pleasant temperatures coincide with a rich and varied cultural program. The months of May and September prove particularly attractive, allowing visitors to avoid the summer crowds while enjoying mild weather. December offers a magical alternative with its Christmas markets and festive lights that transform the city into a sparkling gem.

Access

By plane

Jože Pučnik Airport, located 25 km from the city center, serves as the main air gateway to the country. Buses, taxis, and shuttle services connect the airport to the center in approximately 20 minutes.

By train

The central train station, situated in the heart of the city, maintains excellent connections with major European metropolises: Vienna, Munich, Zagreb, and Venice. This central location greatly facilitates access to the main attractions.

By road

The city is perfectly integrated into the European motorway networks via several major routes:

• Motorway E71 from Venice or Trieste

On foot

The bus network, managed by Ljubljana Passenger Transport (LPP), forms the backbone of public transport. Journeys are made using the "Urbana" card, available at tourist information offices.
