Located on the northwest coast of Crete, the city is about 145 kilometers west of Heraklion. Bordered by the Aegean Sea to the north, it benefits from a privileged position between the Mediterranean coastline and the mountainous landscapes of the southern part of the island. The capital of the regional district of the same name, it occupies a strategic position in this western part of Crete.
The city exudes a unique atmosphere where historical charm meets contemporary vibrancy. Its iconic Venetian port, narrow winding streets, and buildings with colorful facades create a romantic and warm setting that is particularly enchanting. This authentic ambiance extends into a lively nightlife, highlighted by numerous bars, restaurants, and cafes that enliven Cretan evenings.
The territory benefits from a temperate Mediterranean climate with well-defined characteristics.
