Capital of the Grand Est region and Alsace, this metropolis with a rich historical and cultural heritage shines well beyond the French borders. Its city center, the Grande Île, benefits from international recognition thanks to its inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage. Visitors discover exceptional architectural gems, notably the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral and the picturesque district of Petite France. A true symbol of a united Europe, the city proudly hosts the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, reinforcing its status as a European capital.
Strategically positioned in the northeast of France, the city enjoys a prime location in the heart of Europe. Bordered by the Rhine, it shares a direct border with Germany, creating a natural bridge between the two cultures. This exceptional situation places it about 500 kilometers from Paris and 150 kilometers from Stuttgart, offering easy access to major European metropolises.
The unique atmosphere of the city arises from the harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity. Its historic center enchants with its authentic half-timbered houses and cobbled streets steeped in history, elegantly contrasting with contemporary neighborhoods and ultra-modern European institutions. The fame of its Christmas market, one of the oldest and most famous in Europe, reflects this warm ambiance that characterizes the city throughout the year.
The territory benefits from a semi-continental climate marked by pronounced seasonal variations. Summers prove particularly pleasant with temperatures rising up to 30°C, while winters bring their share of coolness and often their snowy mantle. Precipitation is evenly distributed throughout the year, contributing to the greenery of the numerous green spaces.
Spring, from April to June, is an ideal period for discovery, offering mild temperatures and the spectacle of blooming in the parks. Autumn, particularly September and October, captivates with its peaceful ambiance, perfect for immersing oneself in Alsatian wine culture. Winter retains its specific charms, especially in December when the Christmas market transforms the city into a true fairy tale.
