Nicknamed "the Sleeping Beauty", this southwestern port city of France stands out as a must-visit destination combining exceptional architectural heritage and dynamic modernity. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2007, it occupies a central place in the international wine world and attracts visitors from around the globe with its harmonious blend of history and contemporaneity.

Geographical situation

Located in the Gironde department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the city extends majestically along the Garonne, about 12 kilometers upstream from the Gironde estuary. Its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean offers privileged access to remarkable tourist sites, including the Arcachon basin and the famous Dune du Pilat, which are approximately 60 kilometers away.

Atmosphere and character

The atmosphere of the city is characterized by a perfect balance between historical elegance and contemporary vibrancy. The month of June particularly reveals its charm with "Bordeaux Fête le Vin," an exceptional festival that allows visitors to discover local wines and participate in festivities along the quays.

Access

The city benefits from excellent transport links by various means:

• Plane: Bordeaux-Mérignac International Airport serves over 90 destinations with 24 airlines. Since April 2023, tram line A connects the airport directly to the city center in 30 minutes.
• Train: Bordeaux-Saint-Jean station is a major hub, connecting the city to Paris in about 2 hours via the high-speed line (LGV).
• Car: An efficient motorway network connects the city to major French metropolises via the A10 (Paris), A62 (Toulouse), A63 (Biarritz and Spain), and A89 (Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand) motorways.

Public transport

The metropolis has a modern and efficient public transport network:

• Tramway: Four lines cover the entire metropolitan area, operating from 5am to midnight on weekdays and until 1am on weekends.
• Bus: 62 lines serve the 28 municipalities of the metropolis, with a majority of vehicles utilizing alternative energy sources.
• River shuttles: Three lines of water buses, called "Le Bato," connect eight pontoons along the Garonne.
• Self-service bikes: The "Le Vélo" service offers more than 2,000 bikes, half of which are electric, spread across 186 stations.

These modern infrastructures significantly facilitate mobility and make exploring the city particularly enjoyable and accessible.
