Zadar is a coastal city in North Dalmatia that impresses with its harmonious blend of millenary historical heritage and contemporary artistic creations. Its old town, established on a peninsula, reveals remarkable architecture where medieval churches and Roman ruins coexist. This Adriatic city has enriched its heritage with iconic modern installations like the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun, creating a unique identity between tradition and innovation.

Geographical situation

The city covers about 190 square kilometers along the central Adriatic coast of Croatia. Bordered by the Adriatic Sea, it is strategically located approximately 270 kilometers south of Zagreb, the Croatian capital, offering privileged access to the beauties of North Dalmatia.

Ambiance and character

The atmosphere of Zadar is characterized by a particular dynamism, fueled by the presence of a university that infuses a young and lively energy into the city. The cobblestone streets of the old town, punctuated by authentic local markets and seaside cafés, create a warm and welcoming ambiance where locals and visitors mingle in a relaxed atmosphere.

Climate

The destination benefits from a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures generally range between 25 and 30°C, creating ideal conditions for enjoying beach pleasures, while winters remain mild with temperatures between 8 and 10°C.

Best season to visit

The optimal period extends from May to September, with a marked preference for the months of May and June. The latter offer the advantage of sunny and pleasant weather while avoiding the larger tourist crowds of the peak summer season, thus allowing for a more serene exploration of the city.

Access

• By plane: Zadar Airport (ZAD), located 12 kilometers from the city center, serves numerous destinations with both regular and low-cost airlines. A bus line connects the airport, the port, and the city center.
• By road: The city is easily accessible by highway, with travel times of approximately 2.5 hours from Zagreb and 1.5 hours from Split.

Internal transport

The Liburnija company operates a local bus network covering the entire city and some areas of the county. Tickets can be purchased in cash from the driver or at authorized sales points. The historic center is perfectly suited for exploring on foot, while taxis are available for longer trips, although their cost can be high for short distances.
