General presentation

Overall presentation

A true tropical gem of the Philippines, this paradise island stands out as one of the most sought-after beach destinations in Southeast Asia. World-renowned for its pristine white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, it attracts travelers from around the globe in search of an idyllic setting. The famous White Beach, which stretches for about 4 kilometers, forms the backbone of the island and is divided into three distinct areas - Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3 - each offering its own atmosphere and attractions.

Geographical situation

The island is located in the Visayas archipelago, just 0.8 kilometers northwest of Panay Island, in the province of Aklan. Despite its modest area of 10.32 km², it is an entirely self-contained territory, administratively attached to the municipality of Malay. This strategic position at the heart of the Philippines makes it an ideal starting point for exploring other islands in the archipelago.

Atmosphere and character

The island offers a clever mix of festive liveliness and tropical tranquility. Along White Beach, particularly in the central area, there is a vibrant and cosmopolitan atmosphere with numerous restaurants, bars, and clubs that come alive at sunset. For those seeking more tranquility, Stations 1 and 3 provide more peaceful environments, perfect for relaxation and contemplation of the magnificent sunsets.

Climate

The island's tropical climate is characterized by two distinct seasons:

  • Dry season (Amihan): from November to April, with pleasant temperatures ranging between 25°C and 32°C and predominantly sunny weather
  • Wet season (Habagat): from May to October, marked by heavier rainfall and stronger winds

Best season to visit

The optimal period to discover the island extends from November to April, during the dry season. These months offer ideal climatic conditions to fully enjoy beach activities and water sports, with maximum sunshine and particularly calm waters.

Access

Two main airports serve the destination:

  • Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan: the closest to the island, providing quick access
  • Kalibo International Airport: further away but offering more international connections

From these two arrival points, regular boat transfers ensure the connection to the island, completing the journey in a picturesque manner.

Internal transport

On the island, mobility is organized around several options suited to its compact size:

  • Motorized and electric tricycles: the main means of transport for traveling on the main roads
  • Walking: particularly enjoyable along the beaches for moving from one station to another
  • Bicycle rentals: an eco-friendly and fun solution to explore the island at your own pace
