General presentation

Global presentation

Capital of Indonesia, this dynamic and cosmopolitan metropolis perfectly embodies the blend of ancestral traditions and urban modernity. With a population exceeding 10 million inhabitants, it is the true political, economic, and cultural heart of the country. Diversity reigns supreme, offering visitors a striking panorama ranging from picturesque traditional markets to sparkling skyscrapers, along with an exceptionally rich culinary scene.

Geographical situation

Strategically positioned at the northwestern tip of the island of Java, the city extends majestically along the eponymous bay. The Ciliwung River flows through its urban territory, bringing a natural dimension to this metropolitan landscape. The agglomeration, together with the surrounding cities of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, forms a gigantic urban area nicknamed "Jabodetabek," reflecting the ongoing expansion of this metropolitan region.

Ambience and character

Vibrancy characterizes this city where activity never takes a break. The lively atmosphere is fueled by a particularly vibrant nightlife, luxurious shopping malls, and regular cultural festivals that punctuate local life. However, this constant energy comes with the typical challenges of large Asian metropolises: frequent traffic jams and high urban density are integral parts of the daily life of this ever-moving megalopolis.

Climate

The equatorial climate prevails year-round, characterized by constant heat and humidity. Two main seasons shape the climatic year: the dry season extends from May to October, while the rainy season lasts from November to April. Precipitation peaks during January and February, when tropical downpours are particularly abundant.

Best season to visit

The optimal period to discover the destination extends from May to October, during the dry season. These months offer milder climatic conditions with less frequent rainfall, creating a more comfortable environment for tourism activities and urban exploration.

Access

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is the main gateway for international travelers. Located about 20 kilometers northwest of the city center, this airport platform benefits from excellent connections with major world metropolises, facilitating access from all continents.

Internal transportation

The public transport network is undergoing gradual modernization. The metro, inaugurated in March 2019, represents a modern solution for efficiently crossing the city. TransJakarta buses operate on reserved lanes, providing a practical alternative to chronic traffic jams. Official taxis, notably those from the BlueBird company, are a reliable option for occasional travel. However, it is recommended to avoid regular city buses, which are often overcrowded and lack air conditioning.
