Capital of China, Beijing is a fascinating metropolis where millennia-old history harmoniously blends with modernity. This must-visit destination is renowned for its iconic monuments such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, while playing a central role in Chinese politics, economy, and culture. The city offers a rich historical heritage coupled with a vibrant urban life, made accessible thanks to modern transport infrastructure.

Geographical Situation

Located in the northeast of China, about 140 km from the Bohai Sea, the city enjoys an exceptional strategic position. It is naturally protected by mountains to the north and west, while plains extend to the south and east. This privileged geography has made it a political and cultural center for centuries, solidifying its status as the capital.

Ambiance and Character

The city exudes a unique atmosphere where ancestral traditions coexist with a dynamic and bustling urban life. The historic districts, notably the famous hutongs, create a striking contrast with the modern skyscrapers that pierce the horizon. Climate

The continental climate is characterized by very cold and dry winters, contrasting with hot and humid summers. Precipitation mainly occurs during the summer season. Temperatures vary significantly by season, ranging from -10°C in winter to as high as 41°C during the hottest months of summer.

Best Time to Visit

The most favorable periods for a stay are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer pleasant temperatures and generally clear skies, ideal for exploring the city and its tourist sites. However, it is advisable to avoid the first week of October due to the significant tourist influx related to the Chinese national holidays.

Access

The city is served by two main international airports:

• Beijing Capital International Airport: located about 30 km northeast of the city center, it remains the busiest
• Beijing Daxing International Airport: inaugurated in 2019 and located south of the city, it aims to relieve pressure from the main airport

The capital also serves as a major rail hub, thanks to several main train stations that efficiently connect it to other major Chinese metropolises.

Internal Transport

The city has a particularly well-developed public transport network:

• Metro: with its 22 lines covering the entire city, it is the preferred mode of transport for its speed and efficiency
• Buses: a vast network complements the metro by serving areas not covered by it
• Taxis: numerous and affordable, they provide a practical option despite sometimes dense traffic
• Bicycles: thanks to flat terrain and numerous bike lanes, cycling offers a pleasant and authentic way to discover the city
