The city flourishes on the eastern bank of the Nile, in northern Egypt, also extending over several islands of the sacred river. Strategically positioned near the Nile delta, it borders Giza, the iconic site of the famous pyramids. This privileged location makes it a natural crossroads between Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Climate

The region enjoys a subtropical desert climate characterized by two distinct seasons. Winters, from November to March, offer mild temperatures ranging between 19 and 21°C during the day. Summers, from April to October, tend to be particularly hot and dry, with temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C. Spring can be marked by the arrival of the Khamsin, a hot desert wind laden with sand.

Best season to visit

The most favorable periods to explore the capital extend from October to December and from February to early March. During these months, temperatures remain pleasant for visits, and precipitation is exceptionally rare, allowing for full enjoyment of outdoor sites and urban strolls.

Access

The international airport, located about 21 kilometers from the city center, serves as the main gateway with direct connections from many European capitals, including Paris. Shuttles and taxis effectively connect to the city center in approximately 16 minutes, providing travelers with quick access to the metropolis.

The urban transport network offers several options tailored to the needs of visitors:

• Metro: Three lines covering 92 kilometers and serving 80 stations, operating from 5 am to 1 am
• Buses: Extensive network including public buses, microbuses, and minibuses for all neighborhoods
• Taxis: Readily available, with the option to use Uber or Careem apps for greater fare transparency
• Car rental: An option for experienced drivers, though urban traffic can be dense and complex
