Practical information
Perched proudly on the Kruisvest, to the east of Bruges' medieval ramparts, the Koeleweimolen stands as a silent guardian of this Flemish city's rich milling heritage. This wooden windmill, whose majestic 12-meter sails span a total of 24.5 meters, tells the story of an era when the wind shaped the local economy.
Originally built in 1765, the Koeleweimolen has had a remarkable journey. After centuries in Meulebeke, it was carefully dismantled, transported, and rebuilt in Bruges in 1996-1997, taking its place on a historic site where a 16th-century mill once stood. This rebirth testifies to the Bruges people's determination to preserve their cultural and industrial legacy.
